Query For My WIP The Dying Curse

Okay, here's what I got so far :) :

For seventeen-year-old daydreamer Katie Smith, ascending into outrageously cool witch powers rocks, or at least it will if she can stomach a rushed marriage to a guy who she doesn’t love in order to keep them.

Just before graduation, Katie is clued-in that she’s special—like pointy hat and broomstick special—by Oakley, her strange, but sexy supernatural bodyguard. He persuades her to break up with her high school sweetheart, Colin, in order to keep him safe from murderous supernaturals who would use him as bait to steal her powers. When she presses Oakley for answers, he’s absolutely no help. All he wants to do is make out with her. Sure, Oakley is a little exciting and seems to know her better than anyone else, but Katie misses Colin and has to figure out how to get him back without putting him in danger. The only problem is, if Katie doesn’t marry a fellow supernatural being within six months of gaining her magical gift, she will lose her powers forever.

Katie’s not quite ready to settle down with Oakley, but arranging a secret rendezvous with Colin is damn near impossible, especially after Oakley moves Katie into his house and confiscates her cell phone for her “protection.” Every attempt to see Colin is ruined by Oakley’s sudden appearance. Someone is setting Katie up to fail. She needs to find out who it is and fast, so she can stop them before they go after her one weakness: Colin.

Thanks for taking a peek :)

  2. Seems to be a bit long for a query letter, but it intrigues me, nonetheless. I'm trying to write my query letter, but the problem I'm having is trying to make it not so formal. The problem is that my character's voice is pretty formal because she's a 19th century girl. It's not like I can say "Alice found an awesome cross in the library that sent her totally wicked powers." Right now it's so formal that it seems devoid of personality! Gah!

  3. Thanks for the comments guys :) I actually have one together now and its gotten me three full requests and a partial out of 20 queries. I need to get back into sending out queries but I've been so sucked into Nano, its kinda been on the back burner! LOL

  4. I really like this query. It does seem a little long but the premise is intriguing. I'd pick this book up if it was the cover blurb.
